Estates, cottages and cars left behind

Estate and left behind vehicles on Bowen Island.

A parent's car after the house is sold. A vehicle at the cottage that nobody drives anymore. A car that came with the property or stayed behind when a tenant moved. We take them off the island once the ownership side is clear.

We are patient with paperwork, and we never take a car that is not yours to sell.

Why these take a little longer

The car is easy. The paperwork is the careful part

Most of these vehicles have not moved in a long time and the owner is not always the person calling us. That is fine. We just need to know who can sell it before we book a crossing, so nobody is left in an awkward spot.

  • We ask a few questions on the first call to work out what is needed.
  • We can coordinate with family members or executors who live off island.
  • Once it is clear, the pickup itself is the same as any other.
Situations we help with

Four common ones on Bowen

Settling an estate

The executor or administrator can usually sell the car. We will tell you which documents to have ready.

Owner lives off island

Seasonal and weekend homes often have a car nobody uses. We arrange the pickup without you making the trip.

It came with the property

If it is still registered to someone else, ownership needs sorting first. We will point you in the right direction.

A tenant left it

Landlords usually have to follow a process before dealing with it. We will explain, and buy it once it is yours.

How it goes

Three steps, at your pace

01

Tell us the situation

Who owned it, who is selling, and where it sits. We let you know what paperwork is needed.

02

Confirm and book

Once ownership is clear, we agree on a price, a sailing and who will meet the driver.

03

Paid and cleared

The car is loaded and taken off the island, and you are paid the agreed amount.

Questions

Estate and left behind cars, answered

Can I sell my parent's car if I'm the executor?

Usually, yes. The executor or administrator of the estate can sell the vehicle once they can show they are handling the estate. Call us first and we will tell you which documents to have ready before we book a crossing.

I live off the island. Can you pick up the car without me there?

Often. We confirm ownership and how you will be paid before we book anything, and we agree on who will meet the driver or where the keys will be. You do not need to make the trip over.

A car came with the property I bought. Is it mine to sell?

Not automatically. If the vehicle is still registered to someone else, we cannot buy it until ownership is sorted. Call us and we will explain the usual routes so you know where to start.

A tenant left their car behind. Can you take it?

Only once you have the legal right to deal with it. Landlords usually have to follow a process first. We are happy to talk it through, but we will not take a car that is not yet yours to sell.

One less thing to deal with

Tell us about the vehicle and the situation. We will tell you what is needed, then take it off the island.
